ABOUT OUR TEAM

HITTMAN RACING

Hittman racing started as an idea with two race friends Lyle Hitt and Jason Marks.  After a few years of Miata club sprint racing at Monticello Motor Club, at the urging of Jason, Lyle rented a couple seats with another team at two American Endurance Racing (AER) Events.   After trying out a couple races at AER and getting used to driving a higher horsepower car with a mixed field (BMW E36 vs. a Miata), Lyle was hooked on doing more endurance racing events.   However, Lyle wanted to have a bit more control over how the car was managed and maintained and decided to buy a racecar to run in AER.  After much discussion with Jason, we concluded I should buy a BMW 235IR cup car.  As it turns out, another friend of Lyle’s, Chris Ohmacht, had completed his season with World Challenge and was moving up to the M4 GT4 for the 2018 race year and was looking to sell his car.  We bought it and off we went!

Lyle Hitt – Team Owner and Driver

Lyle Hitt began his racing career after attending race school in 2015 at his local motorsports club, Monticello Motor Club (MMC). He then raced in numerous club sprint races over the years where he honed his wheel-to-wheel race craft. He drove in his first endurance race at AER in 2017 with another team that was managed by Teammate and Team Manager, Jason Marks. He raced in another AER race that year with this team as well. In 2018, Hittman Racing was formed and Lyle drove with his newly formed team in two races that year where they honed what takes to be a successful endurance racing team. In 2019, Lyle Hitt drove at least two 80+ minute stints in every race the Hittman Racing team entered in the AER season. At the end of the 2019 AER season, he had driven 1929 laps with the AER series resulting in 27 podiums including 9 wins, 1st place in the 2019 AER Team Championship and 1st place in the AER Driver’s Championship. Outside of racing, he is a senior business executive and has extensive experience dealing with all levels of corporations and presenting in front of large and small groups.

Jason Marks – Team Manager, Driver, and overall motorsports connector

Jason “fell” into Motorsport when he immigrated to the United States in 2012 from Australia, only some 72 hours from landing in New York to being at Sebring for the IMSA 12hr. With an avid interest in Motorsport and a skill set from the professional yachting industry the mix was perfect to pursue driving in conjunction with being a motorsport technician. As time went on and connections were made seat time became available with immediate results.

“Growing up sailing single handed dinghies you have to learn to adapt to the ever changing conditions” he says. “You learn to use every sense to aid your performance which I carried over into motorsport. Be smart, efficient, always work with the equipment-never against it and be faster than everyone else on track!”

A chance meeting between Lyle and Jason in 2015 went on to sharing a car together for Lyle’s first endurance race in 2017 and the rest is history. The pair enter 2022 and their 6th year racing together, 4 of which have been in the team’s BMW M235iR.

“I don’t think there are too many people that have done more laps in the 235 than Lyle and I. No matter what other cool stuff I’m fortunate enough to drive, jumping back in the ol’ girl is always something special.”

Jason along with the support of Lyle and the team has slowly and methodically taken Hittman Racing from a group of friends going racing into a self sufficient semi professional race team that is fighting for wins every time the car hits the track. In 2022, Hittman Racing will be welcoming a second car and team to the family and both teams will compete in the World Racing League championship in the GTO class against the mites of GT4 equipment.

“None of this is possible without a solid team. The partnership with Mueller Motorsport is so dynamic and unique that some pro teams I’ve worked with aren’t as well prepared as us. The belief that Lyle has in me to manage his operation is something I don’t take lightly and as a group we deliver on what our goals are. We still race as friends like back in the day but with a professional approach and always wanting to achieve more.”

Mueller MotorSports - Owner Joe Mueller

Hittman Racing is supported by Mueller Motorsports - a full service automotive race preparation and track support shop located off Rt. I-80 in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

Their owner, Joe, opened the shop in March of 2018, with the intention of providing automotive maintenance and modifications to street cars, while also offering race and track support. Shortly following his opening, due to the high demand for his track prep and support services, it became clear his shop’s only focus could be race cars. A testament to his knowledge, success, and customer satisfaction.

The shop specializes in BMW, having supported various chassis from 1984 to 2020. They are highly experienced in S54 engine swaps, stand-alone engine management conversions, suspension setups and alignments.

The shop has supported teams heavily in the American Endurance Racing series and the World Racing League. Name any track on the East Coast of the United States - chances are they’ve been there.

Camilla “Milla” Ambivero - Crew and Hospitality

When asked how Milla became part of racing, the answer is always the same – “my parents met at a race track.” Her mom was a kart racer and the first woman in Brazil to have her motorcycle license, her father was a rally driver and champion in Europe during the 60s and her mother’s brother was a Formula Vee racer and 1974 Champion in Brazil. Early on, her brother, a professional drifter (FormulaDrift Pro2) and racer (Porsche 944 Cup – SE Champion), kept the family tradition going since the age of 14.

Milla joined the family tradition late as a support member for different professional and amateur teams. She has worked in IMSA – both Michelin Pilot Challenge and WeatherTech Sportscar Championship – as well as International GT Challenge (IGT) and World Racing League (WRL). Her roles have included behind and over the wall, supporting the teams she works with any way she can. She does not shy away from a challenge!

Outside of racing support, Milla is an avid BMW collector. In her collection she has an E36 M3 track car that she tries to take out and enjoy as much as possible with her busy schedule.

Justin Trammell – Chief Strategist

Justin is a 3rd generation racer. His grandfather, as well as father and mother both being hotshots in the drag racing world during their time, it was only a matter of time before he caught the bug. Always with a wrench in his hand, he began driving competitively as soon as he got his driver's license, with a great level of success in the local region. This snowballed further into building his own dedicated track car, along with strong experience running a Champcar program.

He set his focus squarely on engineering quickly, joining The University of Alabama’s Formula SAE team before his first day as a mechanical engineering student. Four years on and now he leads the vehicle dynamics development as well as driver development division, always looking for the tiny details that make the big difference.

Alongside being a mechanical engineering student and a full time role in FSAE, he has been working in motorsport since before college, working various roles in WRL, Formula 3&4, as well as IMSA, where he became coworkers with Jason Marks.

After they parted ways for some time Jason gave him a call one day of “We have this really cool program going in WRL this year, I would like for you to come help out”. And the rest is history. “I love the Hittman program”, Justin says, “There is something so special about getting to be the underdog. The one that doesn’t have the most expensive facilities, doesn’t have the most expensive car, yet always manages to find a way to be at the front, fighting for podiums. It truly is something great.”

His specialization in race strategy has allowed the team to consistently make the best out of the cars performance, culminating at COTA 2021 with a 3rd place finish, of whom they shared the podium with a professional IMSA team, and the other run by Austin Dillon.
